Prudence Higbee and Robert Lewis Participate in Lorman Seminar
Mt. Laurel, NJ - - Capehart Scatchard attorneys, Prudence M. Higbee, Esq. and Robert T. Lewis, Esq. recently participated in a “HIPAA Privacy Regulations and Workers’ Compensation in New Jersey” seminar sponsored by Lorman Education Services and held in Cherry Hill.
In her presentation, Ms. Higbee provided a workers’ compensation background including exclusive remedy issues, types of claims, and how employers may effectively handle investigation. Moreover, she reviewed the interplay between HIPAA and the workers’ compensation statute.
Ms. Higbee, a Washington Township resident, focuses her practice in the representation of employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense matters.
Among her professional activities, she is a member of the American, New Jersey State (Workers’ Compensation Division) and Gloucester County Bar Associations. Additionally, Ms. Higbee is an alumni member of the Phi Delta Phi, Harrington Inn Honors Chapter.
Ms. Higbee received her law degree from Widener University School of Law, where she was a member of the Widener Law Symposium Journal, and her B.A. degree from Rowan University. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Higbee served as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Samuel G. DeSimone, Assignment Judge of Vicinage 15. She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
In his presentation, Mr. Lewis provided an overview of the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and its impact on settlements. He outlined some of the hazards for petitioners and respondents, and insurance carriers. He also provided information on compliance with this federal legislation.
Mr. Lewis, a Medford resident, concentrates his practice in the representation of employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense matters with a special emphasis in claims impacted by the Medicare Secondary Payer Statute. He is a frequent writer and speaker before business, legal, and trade groups on these topics.
Among his professional activities, he is a member of the American, New Jersey and North Carolina Bar Associations. He is also a member of the American Inn of Court Program. He received his law degree from Widener University School of Law and his B.S. degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
